What do you need to do to extend your stay in Belgium?
Why do you need to renew your residence card?
You have an electronic type A foreign nationals card. This card expired on 4 March 2023. The European Council decided to extend temporary protection for refugees from Ukraine until 4 March 2024.
So you can legally reside in Belgium even after 4 March 2023. You must, however, extend your stay yourself. You can do this by applying for a new type A electronic foreign nationals card.
When should you apply for a new card?
Did your type A electronic foreign nationals card expire on 4 March 2023?
- You had to apply for new type A electronic foreign nationals card before 4 March 2023.
- Did you not apply yet? Then you are too late. However, you can still make an application. The City of Antwerp will examine whether you meet the conditions to get a new card.
Please note: You are responsible for requesting your new card in good time.
How do you apply for a new card?
- Fill in this form for you and your family members.
- The City of Antwerp will examine whether you meet the conditions to get a new card.
- Do you meet the conditions? You will receive an appointment via email to apply for your new card. The appointment is at the Administrative Reception at Den Bell, Francis Wellesplein 1, 2018 Antwerp.
Please note:
- The Administrative Reception will not help you without an appointment.
- You can only get an appointment through the form.
- Come to your appointment in person. Children must also come to the appointment in person.
What should you bring to your appointment?
- your electronic type A foreign nationals card
Has your card been lost or stolen? Please bring the declaration form you received from the police. - your bank card or cash
- Are you aged 18 or older? You will need to pay 73.80 euros.
- Are you between the ages of 12 and 17? You will need to pay 24.30 euros.
- A passport photo no more than 6 months old

Don’t have a passport photo? You can get a passport photo from the photo booth in the Administrative Reception area. Please come to your appointment 15 minutes early to take the photos. You will need to pay 6 euros for 6 passport photos.
Do you have children under the age of 12?
Children under the age of 12 should not apply for a Type A electronic foreign nationals card. They can, however, extend their non-Belgian kids-ID.
What is the procedure for renewing the non-Belgian kids-ID?
- Fill in this form for your child.
- The City of Antwerp will examine whether you meet the conditions to get a new card.
- Does your child meet the conditions? You will receive an appointment via email to apply for your new card. The appointment is at the Administrative Reception at Den Bell, Francis Wellesplein 1, 2018 Antwerp.

- the children for whom you applied for a non-Belgian kids-ID
- one of the parents

The renewal of a non-Belgian Kids-ID is free of charge.
